Our guide training programs comprise the following:
This fun and exciting program teaches you the skills and theory necessary to lead day-long (or shorter) kayaking tours. We’ll develop your existing strokes and rescue techniques so that you can manage groups on the water. You'll learn to confidently navigate by reading marine charts, interpreting marine weather forecasts, and predicting tides and currents. You’ll learn how to teach new paddlers basic kayaking skills and safety requirements. You’ll also learn group management skills to keep paddlers together on the water, and you'll learn strategies for responding to incidents. Successful candidates will be awarded Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC (SKGABC) Level One Guide status. Participants must be 19 years of age and have previous sea kayaking experience. This course is designed to develop and add to existing kayaking skills.

This fun and challenging program teaches you the skills and theory necessary to start assisting on overnight tours and to start leading day-long (or shorter) kayaking tours. You’ll learn to use your foundational strokes and rescue skills to manage groups safely on the water. You’ll apply navigation skills to assist in guiding groups on multi-day, overnight trips into wilderness settings. Moderate surf conditions may get between your group and your overnight camping location, so you’ll learn strategies to safely get your group ashore. Part of this practical course takes place in the field, so you’ll take part in a multi-day kayak tour as you learn to set-up campsites and prepare meals. Successful candidates will be awarded Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC (SKGABC) Assistant Overnight Guide status.
